THE saturday

Saturday = snowed in Vancouver + my first date with the local mountains + ballroom ball

Integrating the above expression with respect to "fun" we get a exponentially increasing function of awesomeness plus a constant k.

If you didn't understand the nerd above, I basically had an awesome saturday that involved snow and a ballroom dance.

It's kinda crazy times right now in Vancouver because it's snowing. Now, it's not crazy because it never snows in Vancouver...it does, but just not in November. Most snow days in Vancouver occcur in late Jan or early Feb, meaning that this kinda early snowfall brings record dumps to both local mountains and Whistler&Blackcomb for this time of year. This could be nothing less than good news for me. I was cheering. Come saturday morning however, I was slightly anxious. This was my first official date with my board, the moutains and canadian snow. I was always told that snow here is amazing...Would it live up to its rep, or would I be left on the slopes slightly disappointed? Well there was nothing more to do than getting up there and finding out for myself. On this particular occasion, the ones to partake with me on this date was Duncan (a north Vancouverian yocal who lives at the bottom of a local moutain), my buddy Ben, and the Leys (chris & susie). As the snow capped mountains loomed up on the horizon, a fimilar and unsupressable excitement welled up inside of me as my dream of boarding in Canada was soon to become reality. No more boarding on dirt, no more fear of scratching my board on rocks, no ear splitting sounds of ice packed snow scrapping against my board. It was all about the powder runs between the trees and the smooth groomed runs. Cypress moutain had a healthy 2m snow base, along with a further sprinkling of 10cm of fresh powder overnight. There was nothing more to do than ripping it up. It was my duty.

Parents sometimes say to to their children "If you keep pulling faces, you'll get stuck with it". I for one would like to bear witness to that and say that that statement holds some truth. I could not wipe the stupid grin off of my face for the life of me at the end of the day. The satisfaction and euphoria of riding between the trees, floating on the powder and carving down the slopes only left me with bigger and goofier smiles as the day progressed. I can only imagine what Whistler & Blackcomb will be like...

Feeling sore, tired and broken, it was time to get ready for the ballroom dance that the last three saturdays have led up to. All the pain, sweat and tears of the unco-ness, foot stomping and general incompetency evident in the practice sessions was now to be transformed into the graceful and fluid movements of well defined steps and smiles behind the flourish of formal attire worn by both the ladies and the gents. Despite the formalness of the whole thing, it was a great night with the youth group, in fact, dare I say, it was the perfect way to wrap up the perfect day.

Final week of uni this week. Whistler next Saturday. Mixed emotions. But generally, yeh baby, yeh.
