Jig Saw

Life is a complicated and frustrating, yet undeniably attractive jig saw puzzle that compels you to fill in all the missing pieces. You choose how and where the pieces go...to eventually depict a picture that illustrates what life means to you. Pieces don't always fit together though. Some join together nicely and cleanly as if they were meant to be, while other pieces are held together by glue, duct tape and staples.

As I look back on the week that has just past, I find myself smiling at the pieces that have fit so beautifully together...the pumpkin carving and the whole Halloween shabang on the weekend, the back to back Ultimate Frisbee victories, the choice to play ping pong+watch ice hockey over starting an essay that was due in the next morning (which did get completed...albeit slightly late), the midnight pizza snacking sessions with the guys on my floor, and the satisfying feeling of a toasted blueberry bagel with cream cheese being washed down by a smooth vanilla latte each morning for breakkie as I walked to class. This is how uni life was always meant to be....and I'm loving it!

However as I look into the near future and yonder, I can't help but cringe at the amount of duct taping and stapling that will be necessary to hold two conflicting and disjointed pieces of reality together. These realities being 1) I have a 30% mid-term tomorrow, and 2) I haven't turned up to any of the classes since the first lecture, which makes me slightly anxious about it. And just to rub a bit more salt in the wound, it was entirely self causing and I have no one to blame but myself. Yes, yes, I may appear to be an idiot...but not entirely. It's the two best marks out of 3 exams. I winged the first one and did ok, so I figure, the 2nd one is worth the gamble. If it flops, I can always make no. 3 count. Someone once told me, live life on the edge...otherwise you're taking up too much room, so I figure, now would be a good time to test it out.
(special note to mum & dad, relax...it'll be all good, trust me!)

And now presently, as I stare at blankly at the screen, I come to the realisation that I only have 4 more weeks left of uni at UBC!!!...Suddenly I feel a little short of breath. My time here has so far been a wickedly awesome dream, but this dream is slowly starting to surface back towards reality...of actual work and study next year.

BUUTTT... in the mean time, I have a bit more glueing, stapling and duct taping to do.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
