Rez
Today is the day...the day i move into college residence, or Rez as they call it round here eyyy. Armed with my luggage and backpack I walked around campus like a tourist - minus the token asian camera, the ah hallro's and peace signs. There's a nice vibe hanging around here, although a slight sense of uneasiness still lingers in my gut. But I'm guessing that'll go away once things settle down a bit.So let me give you the latest low down on Rez in this part of town... Its nice.
I'm in Rm 307, level 3, Sherwood Lett building, Place Vanier Residence, south side. The room is pretty nice, newish desks and enough space to store the essentials of the average australian asian man....what more can you ask for?! and lucky me, I have a killer view from my window...it comprises of a rusting fence, a tree and a dead patch of grass. Coming immediately out of my room to the right across the hall is the chill out area - kinda like a yr 12 common room with a TV, microwave, sink, fridge and a sofa. A bit further on is a door on the left that leads into that special place to answer the call of nature - its day 1 and its stinks already...i take it that the older guys are already marking their territories for all the newbies. On the other side of the hall are a few guys I've met already, but I can't remeber their names for the life of me...they're in second yr tho. good guys. Talking bout 2nd yrs, I kinda found out that I'm the grandpa on the floor, it was slightly disheartening. At age 21, I feel like a bit of a geri, especially when most of these guys hardly make the cut to drink legally (19) barr a few 2nd yrs. But a bit of young blood should liven things up a bit eyyyy.
Although I haven't met all the guys on my floor yet, there are a few characters that deserve a mention. Names won't be metioned here to keep it anonymous, but moreover because I can't actually remember their names.
there's an indian/pakistan dude who an absolute cack to talk to. He speaks and acts all ghetto with the handshakes, the walk and all the "hey bro, peace outs, respect...etc", but then the guy looks and dresses like the President of the James Ruse Chess Club or something. The contrast is a real cracker...real nice guy to talk to tho. He's down with it dawg. Respect.
dude down the other side of the hall, well, he's your typical hardcore rocker. his room is loaded with amps, a strat, an acoustic guitar and a FAT computer pumping out tunes...not to mention the slabs of beer.
and then there's the overly keen asian dude. he gets pretty excited when he starts talking. Another nice guy tho.
It should be good to meet the rest of the guys this arvo when we have a floor meeting. From what I gathered, everything here is about chilling, pumping out loud tunes, open door policy and of course beer. Should be a good mix. Fingers crossed.

haha. you are a geri. now you know how i felt hanging out with all you 2nd years in maths last year. the view from you room sounds amazing :P i hope that noise from the commonroom does not keep you up at night. i suppose that is just the price you have to pay to live in a dorm and meet all these amazing new people.
